I am moving to Tennessee this week and the saddest part of that is I won't get to come here anymore. This is by far the best sushi place I've ever been to. My boyfriend and I always start our dinner here the same way, I get the pomegranate sake-tini (comes in a beautiful glass!) I looove sweet and sugary drinks and this is my favorite. Edamame with eel sauce, allllways amazing and if you haven't tried that combo - do it! I get the Grand Isle roll every time with spicy mayo (we come so often the waitress bring these things out before we ask for more lol) and it's the most amazing roll I've ever had. Although it's a little different than the normal roll, as it's stuffed with lots of various kinds of fish (white fish, salmon.. I believe) asparagus, and then the entire roll is fried :D if you have a friend who isn't the biggest fan of raw fish, they will realllllly like this dish!

A solid sushi restaurant. My go-to sushi starts are a glass of plum wine and seaweed salad; the wine was smooth and I got the sunomono, a fun salad with seaweed and sashimi. The sweat potato roll and sea monster roll were great, but I wouldn't recommend them together (too much sweater flavor). My only complaint would be the waitresses loudly socializing behind the bar about everything from the restaurant's hair policy to how feeling cold could mean an infection (or that you just need a jacket). This is what I get for showing up as they open. Long story short, I would definitely use Ronin for my sushi fix in Daytona.

This place came from a recommendation from a local Mr. V spoke to in the Orlando airport. Who am I to turn down a recommendation and sushi? Well, I am incredibly glad I didn't. This place was terrific. The sushi was expansive (love myself some conch), the sake variety intense, and the atmosphere romantic and fun. It was our Friday night date night, so we saved it for the last night in Daytona. I ordered almost all sashimi - conch tataki, spicy tuna handroll, toro, kanpachi, uni, and ikura. Each one had a burst of flavor, nothing felt muddy or old. The seaweed was warm with the handroll, and the rice had a nice sticky quality to it. I really liked this place, and had they had one in my neighborhood, I'd frequent.

This place is absolutely amazing I love this place. Every time I have eaten here the service was outstanding. This time I tried the Mango roll it was outstanding. My waitress Magen was very helpful and made recommendations. She recommended for me to try the Naked Skin roll next time I visit which means I will have to come back one more time before I leave the area. She also took the time to explain what Mochi was. I'm so glad she did because I love them I hadn't had them since I was in Korea. I wish I could take this restaurant back home with me. I would eat here all the time

I very much enjoyed the atmosphere, the art, and the fb pics make me so hungry! My wife and I opened with a bottle of Blue sake which we loved but we prefer hot sake with sashimi so we also ordered a full carafe of house hot sake. We had the following rolls and pieces: The Brian Tatami - Yellow with lemon, jalapeño and ponzu Hawaii - spicy tuna, cucumber, scallion topped with tuna, escolar, salmon, scallion, massago, and avocado Naked skin - salmon, tuna, escolar, cream cheese, krab wrapped in cucumber skin Kobe Roll - crunch, Krab, spicy mayo topped with Kobe beef, avocado, truffle oil, and eel sauce The Kobe roll was my favorite followed by Tatami. I can hardly wait to come back.

Best sushi and Japanese hands down! My wife and I have been coming here for years and she doesn't rave about any other place except Ronin. We recently moved from Florida and had our going away party here. The food is above average and they have our favorite Sake Lyche. It's definitely worth every penny; most people say it's pricier than other places, but I think you're paying for the ambiance. Definitely put it on your list of you're looking for good Sushi and Sake in Daytona!

I was really hoping for this restaurant to be good however it disappointed me. I know it was busy but wow the food took a really long time. And that wasn't even the worst part. I had the jasmine rice with shrimp stir fry. The jasmine rice was cold and undercooked it was terrible. The shrimp stir fry tasted ok. The sushi looked like it was made by an amateur It was falling apart.....

As you know while in town for any type of major event it's difficult to find places to eat without a huge wait or without fried bar food. This spot was a great find thanks to great reviews online. They offer a large selection of sushi as well as a regular menu. Needless to say you should be able to find something delicious. The staff here was extremely friendly and efficient. The atmosphere here was really nice and the restaurant/bathrooms were very clean. As far as food went we both ordered the Soup with Fried Pork dumplings, it was delicious!! We also ordered sushi; Spicy Tuna Roll, The Kentucky Roll & Tampa Roll. Everything tasted great and fresh. We recommend checking out Ronin during your next trip to Daytona! Enjoy!

Ronin = Amazing Sushi I discovered this place while traveling solo on business through the website yelp.com . I searched for "dinner" and this restaurant was listed one of the top restaurants in the area. I arrived around 7:15 PM on a Thursday evening in the middle of February. I was able to locate parking very easily on a lot that sits in between buildings. The atmosphere of this location is "middle bear" nice. The lighting and somewhat darker atmosphere lends itself to an inviting social restaurant and the buzz of the clientele made me instantly feel right at home. I requested to be sat at the sushi bar which was empty at my time arrival. It did fill up the half a dozen seats that were there while I dined. I went to use the washroom and unfortunately discovered it to be quite in disarray with water on the floor as well as paper towels scattered throughout. I was told the server would be right with me but I must've sat there staring into space for a good five minutes or so until a gentleman came over and asked if anybody had gotten with me yet to which I replied no and he then said someone would be right with me. Shortly thereafter Megan arrived. She asked me what I wanted to drink and I was already ready with my entire order. I ended up having a bottle of Ichiban for five dollars, a Ronin roll for $11.95, and a ginger salad. She smartly brought my beer along with a cold pint glass and a glass of water. She did ask if I'd like a glass which was considerate as well. I was so busy watching Brandon prepare sushi, I didn't even take the time to figure out whether or not they had any TVs in this location. In my humble opinion, he is everything you want in a sushi chef. He's meticulous, fast, efficient, and he truly cares about his creations which is evident by his plating skills. Additionally, safety seems to be a top priority in this place with everyone washing their hands frequently and cleaning their workstations after each roll is prepared. I found myself lost in watching him create his art, so much so he called me sir three times before I realized he was talking to me having had prepared my roll. My salad was brought shortly thereafter. Presentation on both was very elegant. My salad was nicely prepared with a spring mix instead of just leaf lettuce. Unfortunately though, it was drowning in dressing. Otherwise it was a nice salad. I found absolutely no fault in my Ronin roll. In fact it was so good I devoured the entire thing and probably 15 minutes. Something to note, all of the soy sauce served is low-sodium regardless of the color of the cap. Megan arrived to ask if I'd like another beer and how everything was. I informed her about my salad to which she apologized and explained that it can be a hit and or miss item for the dressing. She explained that sometimes the dressings really thick and sometimes it's watery like tonight. If I had any advice it would be to attempt to get some quality control in place to make sure that it's consistent. I opted, Instead of another beer, even though the price is right, to do dessert instead, having Megan pick out what I should get. She chose the fried banana for six dollars. This is one of those desserts that could easily support two people but it was so damn delicious I easily devoured it myself! It features a sliced banana wrapped in some light crispy batter and fried. Some slices of strawberry, plenty of chocolate and caramel swirled on the plate for garnish surrounding a scoop of vanilla ice cream. After I wrapped up dessert and asked for the check, I actually contemplated purchasing another beer to just sit and watch the artistry before me. But alas, since I was here on business I needed to get back to my room in order to create this review and get some sleep for my day tomorrow. When I reviewed my check after I got to my hotel, I realized that Megan did me solid by removing the salad from my bill and as a result I must apologize that I didn't accommodate her for this in the tip. I did however; throw a couple of bucks into the tip jar at the sushi bar. Overall, I was really impressed with this place. It's one of those unexpected rare gems you find that you really want to hang onto for forever. I'm hoping it sticks around until the next time I visit for I will certainly return.

I love that they had simple sushi options starting at the $6 range then going up to the more complicated ones at about $12. The "chef special" roll that I had was a delicious blend of salmon, mango, avocado, cream cheese and passion fruit drizzle! This was, however, the only menu option that was adventurous enough to intrigue me, so Ronin, keep it on the menu and add more like it! Don't get me wrong, they're is a lot to code from. I just have a deep love for tropical fruits in my sushi. The shareable dynamite chicken was outstanding and perfect as an appetizer for two people. Let's face it, the real reason everyone should be here is the fried ice cream. I could NEVER eat the whole thing alone. I go here just for it -at $6 it's a steal compared to the $12 it would cost in the town where I live. Dress anywhere from casual/nice to nice/nice. Even so, it's a nice laid-back atmosphere with good service.

This place used to be my favorite! But the quality of the sushi has went way down recently! I don't know if they changed cooks or management but whatever it is they need to change back! 3 stars for the great service though... But definitely not a place to go to for sushi

Wife and I were in town celebrating her birthday and we were feeling sushi. The food and atmosphere is excellent. The only comment would be the wait was awkward because it was hot outside and really no room to wait inside. But the gentleman who was seating us really did everything we could to get us seated. And boy it was worth the wait. Started off w crab Rangoon and it was the best I've ever had. Cool atmosphere if you are in area to see the guys making the food it's even cooler.

Kidnapped my sister for a quiet get-away. Never been to Daytona Beach, and knew nothing about the area. This place had a great number of reviews, so when my sister said "sushi" when I asked what she wanted foe dinner, there we went. WOW! Firstly, any restaurant that has unfiltered sake automatically gets a . The appetizers were great, and the sushi was fresh and delicious. Will definitely go again.

Fabulous, fresh tasting sushi. Great service. I started with a seaweed salad that was fresh and crisp. Our party ordered 5 different rolls and all were delicious. The nigiri was fresh tasting and portions were generous. My daughter had what was hands down the best chicken fried rice ever. And our server was awesome!

I was a little disappointed here. The food tasted good and the atmosphere was nice. However the portions were very small for the prices and the staff was not very welcoming. I would give it another chance but was a bit disappointed in last nights dinner.

This place was a total disappointment. Our family wanted sushi for their last night in town. We ordered drinks and waited 20 minutes before they came then we proceeded to wait another 30 minutes before we were able to place our appetizer order. After 45 minutes of still not receiving our appetizers we were debating on leaving then finally we asked for appetizers and they came out cold and we finally decided to cancel our entire order. This place has tons of false rave reviews. Probably placed by employees themselves.

I was told by many that this was one of the finest sushi restaurants in town so off to try I went. I'm not sure if it was due to the fact that people were overly complementing this place or what but I wasn't too impressed :( I went in around 6 ish and was sat right away. Moments later, the place filled up quick. They had a Wednesday night special where certain rolls were $5. Between a party of 2, we ordered the appetizer Dynamite Shrimp (delicious !). Followed by a Spicy Tuna roll, Spider roll, Amigo roll, and a Shrimp Fried Rice (a bit too salty for my taste) A few bites into our meal, we noticed a piece of hair in the ginger that is served with the sushi. When we tried to notify the server, it was hard to gain her attention.. Once she came to the table, she took the plate with the sushi and brought the same plate back, but with a new handful of ginger.. The hair didn't actually touch the sushi so we didn't make a big deal out of it but it was still gross.. Regardless, this experience was okay.. I don't think it is my cup of tea though. This place has great reviews so it may just have been the night we went. I just hope others have more of a pleasant experience than I did !

Have you ever been to a restaurant and felt that used just wasted your money for no reason? Well this place did it for me. My partner and I came on a Thursday for a dinner snack around 5, because I insisted on going out to check out Daytona Beach's restaurant scene and I love sushi. Earlier, I made a simple call to ask the price of a simple Avocado roll to gage the price range of this sushi joint. I was told $3.25 and though that wasn't to bad at all, In fact, I used work at sushi place with a much steeper prices. The moment we walked in the door we were welcome by a pompous witness with dark hair and her tone was not inviting. *Note this is not an up-scale restaurant, it is a hole in the wall sushi bar with a slight wanna-be modern touch. Which could have been a gem sushi bar! Now, the service was worst than mediocre throughout our entire stay and they were no where near busy. I wanted to start of with two avocado rolls and it wasn't on the menu. (strange for a sushi place, but they weren't a conventional traditional sushi restaurant) On the brighter side- I thought it was great they marked what was cooked or not on the menu, because I am pregnant. The rolls came out fairly slow, but it was great quality. By the time the check hit the table we noticed they charged us for a specialty veggie roll instead of a basic avocado roll. We got charged $6.25 each for just rice, seaweed wrapped and avocado. Misunderstanding or not, I've really never have been charged that much for a simple roll. Now when I confronted the waitress, she said avocado roll were not on the menu and yelled over to the blond hostess if she had conformed the 3.25 price. Which was just rude, unpleasant and I just wanted to see if she accidentally over-charged us. Overall, this place left a bad impression and I don't plan on risking a chance terrible service here even again. I would recommend placing a to-go order and going somewhere better for a date.

  • Ziming S.

Wait is too long(for both a table and food) although food was good but the server and lady in front desk are not friendly and attentive. In the future I would avoid this place for sushi despite the food was good.

  • Don P.

Just finishing my meal here. Polite service and marginal sushi. The tuna was gross, spider roll stale (badly) and yellowtail tasteless. Other than that, it was ok.

  • Audra R.

The absolute BEST, TOP QUALITY Sushi we have found in ALL of Florida yet!! The Kobe Roll is a must try!! I can not say enough about how great this is! You just HAVE to try it if you like GOOD sushi!

    (5)
  • Jon A.

I used to go here back in the day but wow the quality is just not what it used to be. Or maybe I just didn't know sushi as I do now. Either way, the house sake tasted like crap and the sushi was mediocre at best. I'd rather go to fancy sushi or takeya.

Best sushi in Volusia county! Volcano roll is amazing. I can't get enough of this place

Hands down the best place in town to get sushi!! Ronin is a perfect location for the sushi lover who wants a gorgeous background for their meal. The menu is fully stocked with many Japanese options including sashimi. Perfect locale for a date set right off of amazing Beach Street.

My husband and I have been to Ronin a handful of times and have had a mostly good experience. The Sweet Po roll is incredible, and other rolls we have enjoyed there have all been fantastic, as well. My one complaint would be the way certain people are treated. My husband and I don't drink and always feel super guilty for not ordering alcoholic beverages when we come, because after they offer and we say "No, thank you" our servers always seem to be super frustrated. They have also been very outwardly upset when we wind up not wanting dessert because we are full of yummy sushi. Other than that, we love Ronin and Im sure we will be back, despite any guilt pangs we may have to endure :)

My mom and I went here last night after reading as few good reviews! I have to say this place has the best chicken fried rice made with edemame. It was delicious. The sushi was really good - we got the volcano roll and I loved how they added crisp to their salad. We were especially impressed with the service we had-- quick and very nice. Our waitress heather was great! They also have some great sake mix drinks that was a specialty. Ambiance was dark, a little loud, but quaint! We like it dark to enjoy a nice meal with good food and drink! This place is def worth the try if you are down for a romantic date night or night out with good friends.

  • Viktorius A.

I would say this place is not authentic at all. I can only see sushi and other unknown food that is not even close to Japanese food. Me and my friends ordered sushi, salad and fried rice. Sushi was okay, however compared to the price, it is not worth it. Salad was out of expectation. Since it is a Japanese restaurant, I expected salad with wakame (seaweed), a typical Japanese salad. Once again, I was disappointed they brought me just a "regular" salad. For the fried rice, I think better to go to some Chinese restaurant rather than getting fried rice here. Service was okay. However, the price is expensive for the portion we will get.

Ronin is probably my favorite restaurant in Daytona. I grew up here but haven't lived here for a long time, and it's the one place I always go whenever I come to visit family and friends. I don't usually branch out to a ton of non-sushi items on the menu, because that's less room for the sushi, but everything I've had here has been delicious. I love the ambiance as well -- kind of dark and lively but understated, unlike most area restaurants. I spent a decade between DC and Boston and I'd still go to Ronin for sushi.

sushi in volooshi can be scary but Ronin may be the best in town. We seem to get treated well here. can be loud and crowded

  • Desiree' C.

I don't give 5 stars often - out of 40 reviews only 2 other establishments have been given such an honor - but this place deserves it. I almost wanted to knock a star off because they aren't full liquor - only beer, wine, and sake - but the food was honestly good enough to overcome that fact. This place was the highlight of our trip to Daytona this past weekend. It was the best food we had the entire trip and our server, Drew was fantastic. He was friendly, funny, knowledgeable and made great suggestions. The place is small but cozy and has a good amount of ambiance that works for a group or a couple looking for a night out. We ordered 4 rolls - deux shrimp, spicy tuna, hot gator and eskimo. They all were great but the shrimp and tuna ones were the favorites of the four. We also ordered the Kobe Sirloin Tataki - TWICE. Once before dinner and once after we finished the sushi. It honestly was that good. I'd rank it up there in the top ten best dishes I've ever had a restaurant. If I ever find my way back to the East Coast, it will be first on the list of places to go.

This is where I really fell in love with sushi. I've always like sushi, but their specialty rolls are unlike any others! The service can be slow, inconsistent, and they never reply to Facebook messages/ inquiries or comments, but other than that.....fabulous food, nice cozy and sexy environment. You don't feel like you're in Daytona when you enter this place. I've done take-out a couple times, and they always get it right, but you may wait a few minutes longer than told. My roll recommendations - RED SAND (my fave!), Kobe Beef Roll, Ronin Roll, and Rising Sun. I also like their eel nigiri.

We have been to Ronin before but always sat at a table. The food is consistently excellent. The décor is welcoming and there is a great cross section of patrons. Last night we sat at the sushi bar. We decided to try as many things as possible. We tested their hospitality by asking if we could get head-on prawns fried in tempura batter. No problem. They were huge, perfectly fried, and the heads were a crunchy delight. The sushi chefs were serious pros. The pieces of tuna would have provided for three orders in other area restaurants. They agreed to place quail eggs on my ikura. The prices are more than fair for fresh fish. They serve conch sashimi!!! I wish there was a second place on the credit card slip for a gratuity for the sushi chefs. Seated at the sushi bar, there was little work performed by the server except for bringing sake and clearing plates. We only had $5.00 in cash to place in the tip jar. We feel guilty but we will find a way to make it up next time. I give myself 0 stars for being a rude customer and not thinking to stop at an ATM first. I was really embarrassed because the food was so good, and the chefs had orders flying out to the tables.

This was a very popular place to go, so maybe we just had a bad taste. we were told it was the best sushi in town and it was very busy. It was s very small intimate type setting. Well lit and lots of noise. The spring rolls were more like egg rolls and didn't have a very fresh taste. We had 8 different rolls between the four of us and I have to say Maine was the best. The seaweed was a little tacky and the seafood didn't have the freshness that I would have expected. Overall, the rolls weren't bad. Honestly, I just wasn't impressed, maybe I was oversold. The service was fair, we had to ask for refills a few times, but the food seemed to come out pretty timely. The place was kept tidy and the bar tender was super quick while we waited for our table.

OMG soooo good!! Great Sushi and wonderful, quick service! We eat sushi wherever we go, all over the country and this was phenomenal! We looked up on yelp and weighed the reviews with others in the area, called them at 8:50pm and was there by 9:30pm and was out by 10:05pm. Had 5 rolls and they where AMAZING!

As a sushi connoisseur i must say this is the best sushi i have had in a long time. Everything is fresh, staff is friendly and inviting and just an overall great atmosphere. I would highly recommend Ronin with plenty of beer wine and different sakes to choose from. Everytime I have been in, the staff was beyond helpful and enjoyed to give the service that we hoped for. I give Ronin 5 stars

I can only speak about the vegan salads and service, and they were good. I like sitting at the bar, it's cozy and comfortable. The staff are friendly, mostly, and the ambience is nice. I always stop by whenever I'm in town.

Ordered 2 cups of soup while waiting for sushi. My advice, skip it. For $3 you get a measly 1 ladle serving of soup. Very small. Basic broth, for the price you should get twice as much at the very least. Also, soup was served semi warm. Broth temperature varied between the 2 cups, which means it was microwaved and not boiling hot from a pot like it should be. Sushi was good, but the soup deducts from the overall satisfaction. Also, while the server was attentive, he did not ask us how the meal was. Restaurant 101, you should of asked and then reported any concerns to the kitchen.

Got frightened when I asked if they had Ramen and the waitress responded with: Is that a fish? It's more like a bar scenario than it was a great sushi experience.

Well I am sure I am not the 1st out of town patron to Ronin. My fiance and I were on a roadtrip to Florida to see my Pops and on the way back we decided we were going to stay the night in Daytona and find some place on the beach to eat. Yeah... that was a bad idea it was raining and about as romantic as a smelly shoe. So we both wanted sushi and stumbled upon this place. I have to say I have been to sushi bars all over and usually a place like this underwhelms to say the least but we were blown away so much that we actually went out of our way the next time we went to Florida just so we could stop and have sushi here! Try the Ronin Armor roll its one of the best rolls I've had. Everything is very well prepared and the presentation is good as well.

Best sushi in Daytona! My favorite is a Volcano roll and glass of plum wine. Only downside is when it's slammed, it's seriously slammed, an order for two can take 45 minutes to arrive. Go early in the evening, very late at night, and avoid Fridays and Saturdays.

Good stuff! Loved it. Very fresh and courtesy staff. Young crowd and not shy with the sake.

Unfortunately this is the best sushi in the Daytona Beach area. Wait staff applying make-up and eating behind the bar. Not cool.

  • Dali S.

The rude service is not worth the ok sushi of this place. I always attempt to take my guests to this restaurant and I am always disappointed by the staff. Last week I went with my friend from Europe and after we were commenting on how good customer service is in the US we left the place and he told me, well, I guess not everywhere! Other sushi places in Daytona will offer the same quality for a better price and a World Difference of customer service, so stay away of Ronin! And as a tip, don't even think to bring the younger members of your family, they will treat you like scum. Eek!

The server was friendly and the interior looked nice. My qualm was more so with the menu. There were not very many options to choose from when it came to sushi and the options that were available were not very appealing. I am gonna chalk it up to the fact that since it is Daytona there aren't very many good sushi places to drive competition. If there was a 2.5 id give it a 2.5. The word Meh about sums it up.

We were in town visiting family for Christmas and decided to invite them out for sushi - Our treat! We moved away from the area almost four years ago and remember all of our friends saying that THIS was the place to go for sushi in the Daytona area. Maybe we got used to sushi in the big city (Atlanta) but this place was just ok. Definitely not worth the $180 bill our table of six racked up. We ordered a variety of different things - a few volcano rolls (small and not very tasty), a Deux Shrimp roll (eh, I've had better), a California roll and a few others that I can't remember. The crab Rangoon was delicious! And I heard the fried rice was fantastic. And of course, we were putting back some cold sake that was pretty good. Way better than the hot kind. Other than that, however, our table was definitely not impressed by the quality of food. There is a disclaimer on the menu that all rolls are created when ordered so we knew we should expect a wait. However, it took more than an hour for our six rolls, one order of crab Rangoon, and two orders of fried rice to be brought out. And of course, they forgot to bring two of the rolls out so that took another 20 minutes. That is an insane amount of time to wait for sushi when there are only four other tables in the restaurant. In their defense, they obviously knew they were screwing up like crazy with our table. They brought us a pitcher of sake, an order of dumplings and some fried ice cream for dessert - all on the house! I'd like to think that the service isn't typically that slow on a regular basis, but since they had to put a disclaimer on their menu... well, they probably are. Overall, this place is ok. Maybe I've been in the city too long, but the hole-in-the-wall sushi spot we hit up in Atlanta every week beats this place by a mile! Eh, good thing we were just here on vacation. -------Edit 4/1/13----- I should say, we came back and tried Ronin again after moving back to the area and I'll admit, it was much better than it was in December when we were here. We did have a smaller party (two people) than we did last time, but the rolls were good. After re-reading my original review, I can see that I may have been a bit critical. I don't take back what I said because the service was poor and the rolls were just OK. I am glad, however, that they seem to have really improved. I'm sure we'll be back.

What I enjoyed most about Ronin was the silliness of the name. I mean, being a ronin wasn't a good thing. It would be like having an American joint in Japan called "Broke Drifter." Actually, that would be kind of cool. Please do not steal my idea. Anyway, the beautiful wife and I visited Ronin during our visit to Daytona. We started off with some conch nigiri (when in Rome, right?) and miso soup (lame that you have to pay extra for this). Everything was fine (actually, the soup was extra-tofuy, which is a plus in my book). For rolls, we ordered a salmon roll and a spicy tuna. Again, nothing thrilling, but it wasn't horrible either. As others have mentioned, the tuna wasn't the greatest quality -- in a way, it would have been more enjoyable to have "lesser quality", but local fish. I mean, that big blue wet thing next to the sand does have fish in it, right? All that said, the service was friendly and fairly efficient, and most importantly, the beautiful wife being able to order a Poochi Poochi sparkling sake.

This is a pretty decent place if you're craving sushi in Daytona. It's not the best place I've ever been to but they have good traditional and fusion rolls so if you really neeeeed sushi, it's worth checking out. Kind of way overpriced though--that's their major downside. And sometimes slow. But their sea urchin is pretty good and that's a shock especially for Daytona.

For those who only scan reviews quickly, take this about Ronin: sushi was very good, the service wasn't. For more detail: I'd wanted to try Ronin after seeing it while driving through Daytona to the beach and then the extant Yelp reviews really encouraged me even more. So I tried it tonight (29 June 2010) and overall, I was impressed. It's a small space--or at least not as large as I'd expected from the building's façade. The atmosphere is dark and sophisticated, but not over-the-top: it's pleasing without trying too hard. I think this approach is probably better for Daytona Beach than the alternative of a really traditional sushi bar, anyways. Despite being a Tuesday night, the restaurant was pretty busy. The selection of sushi ranges from the typical such as a Tampa roll to a lot of house rolls such as the Hanoi Tower roll and a Hawai'ian roll that is more interesting than your standard approach to just throwing some pineapple on some fish. The rolls I ordered were all very fresh-tasting and on the two rolls that were spicy, a Mexican roll and a spicy tuna roll, they were actually pretty spicy instead of the lukewarm approach of not enough hot peppers or chili sauce you often find with Floridian sushi. Ronin's Mexican roll, by the way, has jalapeño peppers on it which is a very good addition. The smoked salmon nigiri I ordered was also very fresh: ordering a simple nigiri is probably the very best means for testing how fresh the fish tastes, without any other flavors. Ronin's salmon passed the test fine. I wish I'd ordered the fatty tuna, too, which would have been even more illustrative of the freshness or lack thereof. Overall, the quality of the food and the speed of it being presented to me were quite good. My only issue with Ronin was the waitstaff: a host seated me at the sushi bar as I was dining alone and also I requested the sushi bar, then a waiter came over and asked if I wanted sake, beer, or something else to drink, then a waitress appeared and said hi but I guess realized someone else was helping me. When the waiter never came back to get my sushi order, she took it up for me, however. The sushi chefs, all three of them, neglected to greet me or speak with me at all which was a first for me as a solo diner at a sushi bar. Nor was the restaurant that busy, really, and no one else was seated at the bar. When my sushi came out--quickly, I will add, no issue there--the chef handed it across the bar to me but hardly spoke. The waiter failed to show up to refill my water for some time then finally did and asked "everything perfect?" but didn't bother to wait for me to respond. I don't expect the staff to entertain me. I was happy to eat my sushi and was busy texting four friends about my day's adventures. However, normally any patron at a sushi bar is greeted by the chefs he's seated in front of, and the waiter had no need to be so rushed . . . they had probably around sixteen other diners in the entire house, if that, and two other waiters covering plus my dude. For the type of atmosphere Ronin is going for, I think the waitstaff needs to also step up its game. The fish is more or less flawless, though.

I LOVE sushi. But for me finding a sushi place that I can eat at is like driving on a square tire (very difficult). The first day my brother and stopped by Ronin Sushi and Bar we knew we were in for a treat. We Yelped the location and found some great reviews of the place, and they did not disappoint. As soon as you walk in to the restaurant there is an overwhelming feeling of "this is the place to be." The seats were comfortable (both the high and low seats), the wall art was pretty nice. And in case you have to "go" while your there, even the bathroom smells awesome! During my first two visits I ordered the Octopus Salad. It's very light, but if you don't like Octopus, obviously its not for you. As for the Sushi itself, I love spice. So the Ronin or the Hawaii rolls are the first two that I recommend. Each order comes with 6 rolls (I didn't order them at the same time), very filling and beautifully presented. If your in the Daytona Beach area make sure you stop by. You won't be disappointed!

The best sushi we could find in Daytona. I'm sure the large carafe of sake added a star. Ronin had a high rating on yelp, and was highly recommended by the locals. They were both right.

They had one veggie roll, which was passable, but only one. This was kind of the hip place in town, I guess, so it was absolutely packed with people on a weekday night. It was elbow to elbow and service was slow. Nobody loved their meal. We "didn't have time" to change our venue, my companions insisted, but in retrospect, I was clearly correct in thinking that we would've gotten in and out quicker going to some place further into town.

Don't expect to get in and out, but the atmosphere and food are great! The server was good and the food even better. I highly recommend the crab rangoon and the 2 for 1 drinks at happy hour. The rolls were excellent too.....Naked skin roll, ocean 111 and ronin roll

Read some reviews as an out of towner, and didn't expect much, but had a hankering for some sushi... This is some good stuff here! Great Service! Fresh fish! Lots of flavor in the rolls! Great fried ice cream! The run away story is the hot Saki A large Caraffe for 12 bucks, now thats just obnoxious... In a really good way! Soo goood we went back again two days later! I will be back to Ronin when I am back in Daytona!

Sushi is amazing especially the Kobe roll! Really recommend you try that roll and the atmosphere is really nice and chill, the restaurant is decorated very nice.

This is probably the best sushi in Daytona! The place is nice, very intimate, compact. Majority of the sushi is really good. The white fish roll is really good. For a date night with 4 rolls costs about $50ish. Its a little much which is why I only go once in a while. The service is good, the waitresses are very pretty and always look put together. I really like how they don't come up to you every 2 minutes to check on you. It allows you to enjoy your food and company. They always have nice flowers set up by the sushi bar. They have 2 separate rooms one room w high-top tables and the other w regular tables. The green tea is really good and served in a big carafe. The atmosphere is dark and intimate, the decoration is really nice. This is def a place to check out and try. On wed they have a girl who sings, that i have yet to check out. I've heard she is pretty good.

I came here twice on during my business trips to Daytona. First of all the sushi is so fresh and so reasonably priced. Who would have thought that in Daytona beach there could be such a gem of a place with fantastic sushi ! I am sure even Nascar race fans love it !! I love the caterpillar roll, as well as the panko battered tempura. I am not a fan of Sake but they have so many types as well as several great wines by the glass. My client also happens to know the owner which was also another + he took great care of us. I hope he is reading this because I will definitely be back and recommend it for anyone who visits Daytona.

I gave 5 stars I thought every thing was fresh and I like the idea of adding avacado to the spicy tuna like the Ronin roll. I got the food to go had to wait longer then I thought but it has on the menu "Please be patient when your sushi is delayed our sushi is made to order" and there were two other people ahead of me wait for their to go order.

Who would think sushi in Daytona Beach? Eh, why not!? Frankly, if you seek sushi you will succeed......no matter where. As a West Coaster, but a 'constant traveler', AND if travelling with others from my company......sushi is a staple. The same for you? Well.....in 2008 and 2009, our travels included Daytona Beach to cover events revolving around car racing (aka - The Speedway). Our five nights in town (we stayed at a Comfort Suites, off of the International Speedway Blvd - BUT had originally booked into a beachside high-rise which we abandoned IMMEDIATE after arrival - filthy rooms, no internet, no conveniences at all; thanks Comfort Suites for taking our late reservation!) This place is 'cozy'....I mean not grandiose. Yes, you have to hunt for convenient parking BUT we usually dine 'late' which prompted more parking spaces than not. On to the service and presentations: GREAT. The staff (hostess, waitress, chef, etc) were most cordial and attentive. There is table seating as well as bar/kitchen-front dining. SAKi and beer are plentiful and satiating. They offer a typical but eclectic sashimi and sushi menu - edemame with a touch of salt and served warm (fantastic) - miso, of course and white rice (sticky rice bowls) upon request. Tariff: typical of any sushi property - AND because we enjoyed our first experience at Ronin, we have returned OFTEN. Bravo to Daytona Beach and you lucky guys who live there!

A better sushi restaurant in Daytona Beach, Ronin has decent prices and a vast selection of rolls. They have a nicer atmosphere than most places in DB and also make their own sake. Went to a birthday party here of about 20 and service was still good!

On our weekend getaway to Daytona Beach we got a craving for sushi. Found this place on yelp. Excellent sushi!! The combinations in the rolls were all the stuff we loved. Ambiance is nice and great service. Didn't like the wine I picked and the waitress was nice enough to notice and insist to take it off the bill. Great volcano roll and seaweed salad. If we lived there we would be regulars. Only downfall is limited parking but worth it.

We had the kobe beef sliders, tuna tataki and the kobe beef tataki. All were excellent. Followed up by amigo, Ocean 111, spicy tuna and prawn aspargas rolls all which left little to be desired. Meats and fish were of the highest quality and the rice was cooked to perfection. They really know what they are doing in the kitchen. Service was timely and the decor was please to the eye!

Small and popular for the trendy people, but you don't have to be ultra cool to go there. Food is great! Service is friendly. Clean. Can be loud and crowded, but I have never had to wait for a table.

I'm from the west coast where suhi joints are as common as taquerias which leads to competitive pricing. This place (highly recommended by my local sister) was sub par last night 4/19/12 @ 8:30, packed and too noisy to hear across the table(she thought the noise added a touch of Cosmo, but I think the staff needs hearing protection to work in such a loud place ) The service was slow, the order missing dishes that they charged for. I ordered additional hamachi Nigirii (dam spell checker) which was over sized (not bite sized) and warmish just this side of fishy smelly/tasting. Another roll had ingredients that might play in a she-she restaurant, but not sushi. I know, why did I go to the east coast for sushi? B/c I'd been told it was a good Japanese restaurant (no Japanese people present) that also served sushi... Very limited menu and the names were all in English... If you want to try fresh sushi in the states go to California...

Ronin is perhaps Volusia counties best sushi bar. That being said its probably a 7 on a 10 scale nationwide. Rolls are good and of high quality but lack in some variety. Try the Ronin roll very nice our favorite. Price wise they are a little high and you can do better in Orlando at Fuji on Lee Road. Weekends can be busy tends to be the in crowd place to go with a lot of Emery Riddle kids. We usually go late and are able to sit near the bar. Service has been good with the wait staff remembering us each time we visit.

Lovely food! Prompt, friendly service. Try the Muchi (not sure of the spelling) for dessert. I like my sushi small and bite sized, and it was just so. We liked everything about Ronin.

We were very happy with the place and went back a couple of days later. The food was fresh, yummy, nicely made, and well presented. Nice restaurant! The only reason for the 4/5 is the price. Try to go on a Wednesday when they have a happy hour sushi!

My wife and the couple with us were quite happy with what they had... I wasn't. First let me say that I was a sushi chef for three years back in the early 80s. Back when nothing came in already prepared. You had to make everything from scratch so I sorta know how things are or should be done. The first thing I noticed was the waitress wanted to know if we wanted edamame which was a $5 charge. Since it has alway been gratis, this was a first for me and somewhat surprising. When we ordered our sushi off of the menu the toro, (fatty tuna), which was $8.95 had a note next to it which said "one piece". This led me to believe that the other nigiri items were 2 pieces, which has always been the norm. Not here. All nigiri is one piece. Since we were in one of the better sushi bars around I ordered a California roll. When it came it was made with krab and not snow crab. Very disappointing! I had the hamachi nigiri, a spicy tuna roll and a surf clam, all of which were quite good. My only other criticism is that Ronin is a bit pricey. Service is good as is the atmosphere. But for my money, the sushi at Takeya was much better BUT, I haven been there in quite awhile.

My husband and I were unimpressed when presented with a lukewarm carafe of water with 2 teabags floating on top masquerading as their "unsweetened tea". Most of the waiters look like metrosexual guidos and they try to lecture you on sushi even if you're asian. It's kind of ridiculous and pretentious. If you can forgive the service, the atmosphere is quite nice. The sushi isn't so hot.. my husband's sweet potato roll was overfried and my spicy tuna sushi was not prepared properly.

I don't know where all the positive yelping is coming from about Ronin. This is not a good place for sushi . The selection of rolls are full of "krab", eel, or avocado. I like eel, but the eel here was not very good. Most of the rolls with tuna use something called "white tuna" which turns out to be albacore or spicy tuna which is a way to hide lame tuna in a spicy sauce. More then half of the rolls had some type of deep fried item, one even had "tempura chicken". What? I personally like nigiri, or a slice of fish on rice. The prices for nigiri here are too expensive for the portions. The rice was cooked with too much water and was soggy, no texture. I don't think it is even sushi rice. Basically this is a high priced hipster sushi place that overcharges for sub-standard fare. I paid $90 for three and we were still hungry when we left. The place is clean and the waitresses all wear black, it looks so cool, but it was a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. I'm giving it $$$ pricing because if I would have ordered enough sushi to fill up it would have easily been more then $50 per person. We didn't even order any alcoholic drinks, just some tea. Publix has better sushi, go there, save your money. Have a sushi picnic on the beach.

Well, even though it was a Friday night we received fabulous service, in a great atmosphere, I loved the decor and the sushi was excellent! This place is upscale modern with a bar area with high top tables and then in the next room there were tables and seats at the sushi bar- the sushi was like butter it melted in your mouth...I wish i could remember the name of the roll I had I would tell you to order it! LOL

Ronin is sooo good! You can't miss with this restaurant. We had three different rolls and all were delicious. For those who want steak - the sliders are terrific. The atmosphere reminds me a little of Nobu 57 in New York. The server was very helpful. I highly recommend Ronin.

The environment and decor are elegant, service is very friendly. Among the Sushi rolls, we like the eel best. It's $6.50, but tastes as good as more fancy ones that costs over $11.

I thought this was a great sushi place. The sushi was fresh & delicious. My friend not a sushi eater, loved her "cooked" meal as well. Prices seemed typical. Comfortable atmosphere; we sat in the front at the high tops. The back dining area was packed. Next time I'm in Daytona, I'll come back.

Don't try it. While the restaurant tries to have a trendy feel, the food does not match up. I would suggest appetizers and drinks here. But not the sushi. Its uncreative and the fish quality is not there. The service was also poor and we even sat at the sushi bar. Overall, I don't think Florida gets great Sushi variety or Sushi quality fish. Yellow fin tuna tastes crappy and no restaurant seems to get albacore out here. I would pass on this place.

  • Kelley T.

Went here on recommendation from a friend, and I must say I was rather pleased with the food. We ordered an Eskimo Roll, Eel Roll, and a Shrimp Tempura Roll, as well as salmon sashimi which was absolutely out of this world. The house sake was delicious. The atmospere was trendy, a little bit dark though. We were there on a Friday night at 7:30 and thus had to wait longer than I'd have liked for our food because they were very busy. The wait for the food and the fact that we were seated next to a large, obnoxiously loud group are really the only two complaints I had. Service was friendly. Would definitely go back, however will try to skip the weekend dinner rush next time.

Happy to see there is decient sushi in NASCAR land, who would ever thought. Ronins sushi was fresh and satisfying, and the seaweed salad and miso were awesome. I felt I was in a techno club though, they had a song on where a dude kept saying "tell me"; after hearing that for a while I would have told him whatever he wanted as long as they turned off the music. The reason Ronin doesn't get four stars is with all the trendy ambiance it still lacks any real personality.

I am from Tampa and i went here with my girl friend for the first time last night. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered 4 different rolls and all of them were soaked with water. The rice and fish was dripping with it, it totally watered down the flavor (no pun intended). She also ordered a ginger salad and i ordered a beer which took until half way through out meal to arrive. The rolls could have been great if i didnt feel like i was washing them down with a gulp of water after every bite. Dont think i will be going back even in a pinch.

This is the best sushi restaurant in Daytona by far! You wouldn't think you're in Daytona Beach when you walk into this place; they have a very nice atmosphere, the staff has always been very friendly and service is always good and the rolls are amazing (The Ronin roll is my favorite, Hanoi Tower, and Tuna Tataki are also among my favs...oh and the crabby rangoons too...yum yum)! It's a great place to celebrate any occasion though it does tend to get pretty loud on the weekends when they're packed full. The place isn't all that big so the tables are fairly close together. Don't be surprised if you have to wait 45-50 mins on a busy night to get your food, all the sushi is made to order so depending on how many chefs they have working it might take a bit for your food to come out...so don't complain about it....just sit down, shut up and drink some sake!

I think this is the best sushi around. I lived in California and I think the albacore here compares to the freshest fish there. It is so good. Service is only okay but the food is so good it is worth it. Stick to nigiri and sushi, I haven't had that many rolls.

"Emotions and tastes that resonate", thats what their business card says. I have to admit this is pretty darn tasty for Daytona. Sushi is fresh and the rolls are yummy. Some of the rolls come out like art. Nice new decor. Only gave 4 stars because they didn't have Uni or Green Tea. Staff is very friendly.

This sushi bar is as good as it gets! Great atmosphere, excellent service, and the food is beyond amazing. Be sure to ask about the chef/owner's special creations. I truly enjoyed the baked mussels and the kobe roll - who ever heard of kobe beef on a sushi roll? Take a date, enjoy a night out alone, or bring a group of friends, you cannot go wrong at Ronin Sushi!

Nice place for sushi in Daytona Beach. Staff is nice and takes good care of you. Sushi is decent, but the best I have had in Daytona. A little disappointed in the Toro I ordered. It was not a very good cut of fish. But as a road warrior I make this a stop every time I am in town.
